The Cropthorne Camera of Minnie Holland 1892-1905

This book - reprinted for the 34th Cropthorne Walkabout - is a remarkable collection of photographs taken at the end of the 19th Century in Cropthorne by the squire's daughter, Minnie Holland. The pictures, discovered by chance in an antiques store in Plymouth, are brought into perspective through the stories and anecdotes of life in Cropthorne at the turn of the century recounted by an elderly resident who remembered Minnie Holland and many of the residents captured through her mesmerising photographic images. The result is a unique walkabout in Victorian rural England before the twentieth Century changed it forever.
